1971 Original RS1600 standard road
Was used successfully in the early 70’s for Motoring
News road rally events in its original unmodifed road spec.
This car spent much of its life tucked away in a garage as
the owner passed away in 1978, the garage door was locked
and not reopened until 2002, the mother of the owner held
onto the car until she eventually sold her house and had to
empty the garage in 2002, when the garage doors were cleared
of brambles etc the doors were opened and to everyone's delight,
the car had survived its deep sleep remarkably well, the garage
had preserved the car far better than anyone could of imaged.
The mother of the deceased man decided to let the car go to
an RS enthusiast, the new owner spent the next 3 years lovingly
restoring it using only genuine Ford parts, the body shell
was in superb condition and did not require patching and welding
like most restoration projects , there is a huge file with
the car with photographic evidence to prove this . All the
rare parts such as the air filter box, trim, dash and all
other RS1600 items are the originals from this car. The long
term restoration was featured in magazines (included) The
car fired back into life for the first time on August 31st
2004 , (24 years after it was parked up in 1978) but more
significant exactly 33 years to the day since the car was
originally registered August 31st 1971 ! The car then sat
in JD classics collection from 2006 until 2016.
There is a huge file documenting the events it did in the
70’s, all the results, photos and even the competitor
plates/stickers from each event.
Rarely does an original RS1600 come on the market for sale
and even less frequent in this condition with such few miles
on the clock, a mere 45 years old with all matching numbers
on vin plate, bodyshell and engine and with a fully documented
history file. Simply stunning. Investment opportunity.
