MK2 Escort RS2000 Group 1
Historic Rally car
Probably the most famous Group 1 Escort rally
car any where , with a documented long history of success.
Built to Group 1 spec by Ford motorsport Boreham
for HRH Prince Michael of Kent to compete in 1976 Tour of
Britain Rally (finished 11th) then sold to; David Sutton Cars
for Jill Robinson to use on the Lombard RAC rally sponsored
by Castrol , then hired to David Lang sponsored by Withers
of Winsford, then the car was sold to Quicks for Ford and
Mike Stuart drove the car successfully for another couple
of seasons winning many awards and Lombards RAC rallies, the
car was then sold to MCD/RED for Louise Aitken to drive for
the next couple of seasons and RAC rallies winning even more
awards. The car had spent all of its life with professional
teams and was always upgraded as the Group 1 homologation
spec was upgraded , leaving this car in max Group 1 spec .
The car was eventually sold into private
hands in mid 80's and used on smaller rallies . In 1990 the
owner decided he would like to restore this famous little
car, he asked Mike Taylor Developments (MTD) to do the job,
as Mike himself was subcontracted by MCD/RED to prepare the
car for them.
There is a large documented restoration file
with lots of photos and a ten page invoice
(the restoration cost £24.5k in 1991)
The car has never been rallied since the restoration,
it sat in Louise Aitken Walkers show room for a while before
being bought by ourselves .
This car has done it all it , won at all
levels (International and National ) Rarely do you see cars
of this calibre with some of the biggest names in 70/80's
rallying ....Boreham , David Sutton , MCD/RED , Mike Taylor
Developments etc Not to mention Royalty and a Ladies World
Rally Champion .
A very versatile little car , suitable for
historic stage rallies, relaxed classic rallies, or road events
etc. Simple to maintain , easy to drive.
